Second Saturday Trail Maintenance - Harvesting Seeds

December's Second Saturday trail maintenance focused on seed harvesting from wildflowers, grasses, and forbs. These seeds will be redistributed in areas that have lacked fire and resource management for decades. At this time of year, many species have completed their bloom and set seed. In parts of the park where tree cover and fire suppression have reduced diversity, seed collection aims to restore wildflowers and grasses, particularly in areas of bare soil exposed by recent prescribed burns.
